Previous CODATA Strategic Plans
The first iteration of the?CODATA Strategic Plan 2013-2018?built on CODATA's previous plan and on the strategic priorities outlined in the new?ICSU Strategic Plan II 2012-2017. It included a brief overview of CODATA’s strategic accomplishments under the previous plan, and set out a new set of initiatives and targets for the period 2013-2018. Based on inputs received from a variety of sources, this plan provided an overarching vision for CODATA and its role in the rapidly changing world of international science, as well as detailed implementation plans for the strategic initiatives identified.
CODATA Strategic Initiatives
Three initiatives were detailed in the CODATA Strategic Plan 2013-2018.
Policy and institutional frameworks for data:?CODATA takes the lead in defining a policy agenda for scientific data, addressing national, international and scientific contexts. CODATA is establishing an international, expert Data Policy Committee?to guide this activity.
Frontiers in data science and technology:?CODATA stimulates and coordinates work at key frontiers of data science and interdisciplinary application areas. Working with a range of partners, it will initiate a series of international workshops on addressing these. CODATA will also expand its education and training activities including curriculum development in data science and an initiative to encourage Early Career Data Scientists.
Data strategies for international science:?CODATA supports scientific programmes to address data management needs, particularly concerning policies processes and standards necessary to assure data legacy. In partnership with the ICSU World Data System, CODATA organised SciDataCon 2014, the International Conference on Data Sharing and Integration for Global Sustainability?(New Delhi, India, on 2-5 November 2014), which examined the state of the art of data science, and consider its role in addressing the most important challenges in international research for the good of society.
